The first AIGA Portland “SHIFT: A Green Salon” event was held November 5th at Pop Art’s Community Room with an overwhelming turnout of over 80 people. When I started AIGA Portland’s sustainability initiative earlier in the year and began planning events to help increase awareness of the importance of sustainability in design work, I was hoping we would hit on a subject matter that would be of interest to local designers. The idea behind SHIFT is to create discussions around “what sustainable design means to you”. We ask for submissions of five-minute presentations, and the green team picks the best ten for the event. With the help of the green team, and especially Martha Koenig, our first event was a big success.
